Isn’t this block pretty? It’s was supposed to be one of twelve blocks for a queen size bed ten years ago. That’s right, TEN YEARS AGO! And I have two other different quilt blocks, similarly made from around the same time period. Needless to say, I will not be making these into quilts but rather tote bags for the women at a local shelter. Quite often, these women, most with children, arrive with their belongings in a shopping bag and a tote bags can feel like a small step onto their new journey.
What do you do with your orphan blocks? Tell me in the comments below!!

I’ve sewn one stack together to make a single bed quilt back. Not very successful from the point of view of design. But each block could be made into a label for the back of a quilt. I’m liking your idea of adding a block or two to a very sturdy draw string bag—much more dignified than a big old trash bag.

Wow! What an awesome thing to do! I think you inspired me to do the same with orphan blocks.
Thanks.

aka – “Blocks at Liberty” – got lots of them. With a little wing on either side and quilted, they go under the dog bowl, mug rugs with enough room for mug AND a cookie, go between the “good” bowls I “stash” for company……
