On September 28, 2016, I commented on an article I had read in “Country Woman” magazine a couple of years before. I noted that the phrase “I can’t do hand stitching” and “I don’t have time for hand stitching” was simply not true. In fact, here was an example of a female astronaut, up in space, hand piecing quilts for her family while obviously being quite busy. Whether it is embroidery, applique, hand piecing or English Paper Piecing, there is and should always be time for creativity. You can read the blog post here –
Now, the retired astronaut, Karen Nyberg, is designing fabric!! There is a fascinating article in the “Smithsonian Magazine“ about this next adventure for Ms. Nyberg.
You would be surprised by the large number of women with demanding careers and lives who pick up a hoop, needle and some thread and add beauty to their lives, to our lives. Everyone starts somewhere…

Falls under the heading of “Never say never!” So many new things to do and try – although I’ll stick to planes. Thanks!

The last 14 months have been very challenging. My husband was in hospitals, ER’s and rehab/skilled nursing facilities for 5 1/2 months and then home to finish his recovery.
It was my needle, thread and embroidery/quilting projects that quieted me.

Hi Barb,
I certainly can appreciate your thought. We tend to forget that we must care for ourselves in order to care for others. I sincerely hope your husband has recovered. Sending prayers. Lynn
