It’s the “Magic” time of year!

I LOVE the holidays from Thanksgiving to Christmas to the New Year! I have just the quick projects for you, aren’t these fabulous. Hi there,

This year of challenges just drones on with COVID (am very fortunate to have survived it), the unemployment and the election. And then there are the cancellation of me lecturing and teaching at guilds and vending at the quilt shows – I really looking forward to vending at the quilt shows.  In my personal life, I’ve moved twice (!) in the past five months (lots of packing, unpacking, packing again…) have been working only part time at the local Town office, no teaching, no quilting events.  My home guilt guild isn’t meeting until after January 1st but my other guild has been holding guest lectures on Zoom (yeah!). I didn’t go on the annual Fall Retreat, where I always look forward to the people, great food and lots of laughs. I have found it to be very difficult to feel creative. Have you felt that way? Have you been making face masks for months but not much else?

Where I’m living now is very peaceful and pleasant. The Puppy Girls are comfortable and happy to be here and I’m back to doodling again. I wanted something new, something different and this time, something cute and quick. Some (fairly) instant gratification for a change and now I am ready to share with you.

Good morning!  It’s July 15th and it’s only 162 day until Christmas!  Quilters are such an AWESOME group that they are always thinking and planning.  And really, who doesn’t love presents?? Well, my quilt buddy Carole of FromMyCarolinaHome.com put out a call for great gift ideas of all shapes, sizes and styles for the upcoming Holidays (they can’t cancel Christmas, right?!!) and there are 22 of us who came through to participate in the Christmas in July Blog Hop!  Many of the designers have included free patterns and offers, including me!

As the weather gets nicer, we move outdoors. We garden or walk, hang out by the pool and maybe, slowly and cautiously, we head back out into the community at large.  The first six months of 2020 were challenging, at at times, scary and sad.  And resuming all of our “normal” lives can be slow, if happening at all.  

So here’s a thought to bring a smile to your face – Christmas is 162 days from today!  That’s right, Christmas!!!  My very favorite time of year, the time of year I think about the whole rest of the year.  And if you’re a quilter, stitcher, sewer or crafter like me, you need to be working on holiday projects and gifts starting NOW!  And one of the most overlooked part of our projects can be the portability of some of the work.  The hand-stitching parts of projects, be it embroidery, fusible applique, English paper piecing or even hand piecing, are all very portable and go outside with you!  It’s quite easy and inexpensive to put together a couple of project cases – needles, thread and threaders, a small hoop, something to cut the thread (wide variety these days) and your project. 

My project cases used to be Ziploc bags but slowly I’ve begun to make and use other project cases.  And it’s not at all uncommon for me to a few different ones going.  You can find a project in my purse, my tote bag, my briefcase, in my car, so that where ever the opportunity comes up, am ready.
